Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The Great Debate…….Is Fewer Better?.. For as many sport bettors, there are as many differences of opinion or preferences on the best betting strategy to maximize profits…In a recent discussion I had with one of my personal service clients, who by the way has been with me for nearly 10 years, we engaged in a lengthy phone conversation over “The Great Debate”. Is few better or is more better? He is a 3 to 5 dime daily player and for the past few months has resorted to playing only the play of the day for 3 dimes a day. Since our end of the month slump this month, the debate once again surfaced, do I keep playing one game a day, or should I start playing 2 or 3 or all of your plays, or quit for awhile?…My philosophy on this subject has always been, “a play is a play”. “Maximize winnings and minimize losses”. This means that when things are going well, you push, when on a downslide you back off a little. That is why I developed the 25/5 bankroll management system. It takes the guess work out of how much to play on a daily basis. Now, back to the question, “is fewer better”. I feel that if after handicapping the days schedule you end up with say 5 games that are designated as potential plays, then you play them all. It is very difficult to try to pick which ones are better than the other when you are using a handicapping method that gives you clear cut formula for what constitutes a play. Finding that “one” best bet, or play of the day is usually not too difficult as is evidenced by our play of the day record over the years, but trying to break it down from there is extremely difficult. There is nothing wrong with diversifying your betting strategy when things aren’t going in the right direction. If the play of the day isn’t working for awhile, then go to playing all the plays, if in fact the winning percentage is positive. Putting $3000.00 on one game or spreading your $3000.00 out over say 5 games can still make profit and limit loss. You can even go to cutting your outlay and playing a parlay here or there for say one third of your allotted bankroll, or play some money line favorites. If something isn’t working, get creative and diversify until such time your preferred betting strategy gets back on track. Playing one game a day is just fine as long as your winning, but I don’t know how many times we have gone 3-1 or 4-1 with the one loser being the play of the day….It really all boils down to your preference, so the question over “the great debate” will still remain unanswered. My answer is clear for me…”a play is a play”. I look for a 60% win percentage whether it be winning 6 out of 10 play of the days over a 10 day period, or winning 6 out of 10 plays everyday….Whatever is working at the time. When a good handicapper goes into a slump, it is normally just due to the inevitable run of bad luck where the ball just isn’t bouncing your way, and will not take too long to get back on the upswing again. With our history and winning percentages, in reality, you wouldn’t go wrong going either way..”fewer or more”.
